“Full STEAM Ahead” Free Family Discovery Day

When:  September 9th

Time:  12pm – 2pm

Where:  The Besser Museum for Northeast Michigan

Topic:  Wild Weather!

Have you ever wondered why the sky is blue or where lighting comes from? Through hands-on activities, “Wild Weather” will explore clouds, rain, lighting, weird weather activities, and more! In addition, you’ll get the chance to use real weather instruments used by meteorologists and scientists. Enjoy 2 free showings of “Wild Weather on Weird Worlds” in the planetarium, as well.

What it's all about:

Besser Museum’s “Full STEAM Ahead” Free Family Discovery Days are funded through a 2017 Alpena County Youth and Recreation grant. The Saturday, September 9th, 12pm – 2pm program, “Wild Weather,” will be the first of six Free Family Discovery Days that will be offered throughout the year.

The Besser Museum’s educational outreach department has developed six different educational programs themed to highlight Alpena’s community and heritage. The six Free Family Discovery Days will be based on the elements of STEAM (science and technology interpreted through engineering and the arts, all based in mathematical elements).

Through the utilization of the new digital dome planetarium theater and collaboration between museum staff, volunteers, and community partners, the whole family will enjoy participating in the “Full STEAM Ahead” hands-on learning activities.

The “Full STEAM Ahead” Free Family Discovery Programs will take place on September 9th, October 14th, November 4th, November 15th, December 9th, and December 28th. More information is available at www.bessermuseum.org.
