HISTORY

Besser Museum's has a vast collection of historical artifacts including material culture items that portray

life and industries in Northeast Michigan from the Big Bang to Big Industry.

 

Visit the recently renovated 3,000 sq ft interactive exhibit space that explores Prehistoric and Native American artifacts unique to this region. Learn how fur trading in the Great Lakes, lumbering and farming affected Northeast Michigan. Stroll through the Museum's replica of an 1890s Avenue of Shops. And discover how area resources developed local industry. Take time to explore the Great Lakes Maritime Heritage exhibit and the historic buildings on the Museum's property. Then, dig for Devonian fossils in the outdoor Fossil Park and take your findings home!
