"Dalí & Freud" presented by Dr. Kelly Bushéy
Dr. Kelly Bushéy has a PhD in psychology from Northcentral University. She is a motivational speaker and the founder of Dr. Kelly, LLC. She was an Associate Professor of Applied Psychology at Hodges University, and taught psychology as adjunct faculty for Alpena Community College. She specializes in working in diverse cultures. She is a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for Native Americans and was recognized as an Associate Member of the National Congress for American Indians for her extensive work with Indigenous youth. She is a native of Michigan and enjoys fishing and rockhounding Petoskey and pudding stones.

Session 1: The Dreamer and the Dream Analyst
Thursday, February 26 at 6pm
Sigmund Freud’s influence on the Spanish artist began when Dalí read Freud’s book, “The Interpretation of Dreams” (first published in 1900). In this session we explore Dalí’s artistic process of employing Freud’s theory of the subconscious impact of dreams and methods for interpreting them.
Session 2: The Artist and the Psychoanalyst:
Thursday, March 26 at 6pm
In this session we explore Dalí's artistic style influenced by Freudian theory. We scan the psychological themes Dalí used within his artistic techniques such as, the use of free association. We further discuss how he blended subjective experience within the broader psychological themes of his surrealistic statue “Venus de Milo with Drawers” (1936).
Session 3: The Surrealist and the Skeptic
Thursday, April 23 at 6pm
Dalí finally meets his hero! This session explores the long-awaited meeting of Dalí and Freud in 1938. What transpired when these two icons met? How did meeting Freud in person impact Dalí.
Session 4: The Agnostic and The Atheist
Thursday, May 28 at 6pm
This session explores the unique transition from surrealism to neo-classical shortly after meeting Freud. We will explore the evolution of Dalí’s artistic style after his restoration of faith.
