is a 501(c)3 non-profit charitable organization.
The Besser Museum is a 501 (c)(3), non-profit, membership corporation stewarded by its own Board of Trustees. The museum receives no continuing financial support from federal, state, or local government entities or millage. Operational support is generated through admission fees, membership dues, awarded grants and donations. Besser Museum is an accrediated museum by the American Alliance of Museums.
Your annual museum membership helps:
- Ensure that the Besser Museum remains a vibrant cultural
center in Northeast Michigan
- Collect and preserve culturally significant artifacts and
historical documents
- Create exciting exhibits and community events
- Provide educational programming for students and their
teachers.
- Maintain the only digital, full-dome, sky theater
planetarium in northern Michigan.

The Besser Museum for Northeast Michigan is EXTREMELY grateful to be a recipient of a $5,000 Michigan Humanities H.O.P.E. grant to help with operational expenses. The H.O.P.E. grant is part of the Coronavirus Relief Act and Economic Security (CARES) Act. The grant helps non-profits cover a portion of their operational revenue lost due to COVID-19. The Besser Museum is also grateful to be a recipient of a $2,500 Emergency Relief grant from Michigan Council for Arts & Cultural Affairs. These federal funds were provided to the Council by the National Endowment for the Arts and are to be used to cover salaries and facility costs impacted by COVID-19.
The Besser Museum is EXTREMELY grateful to the Besser Foundation for generously supporting the mission of the Besser Museum and helping provide culturally enriching experiences to citizens living and visiting in Northeast Michigan.
